Training

Eligible to join the first day of the month after 90 days of employment.  Company funded life insurance, with the option to sign up for additional insurance paid for by the employee.  Includes spouse and children also.

Flexible Spending Account
Eligible to join the first day of the month after 90 days of employment.  Reimburses employees for qualifying healthcare and/or dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars.

Paid Leave
Blair provides Paid Leave to regular, full-time and part-time employees based upon their length of service with the Company.  Employees may use accrued Paid Leave for vacation, personal business or time off for a personal health condition in accordance with established policy.

Paid Holidays
Eligible after 90 days of employment.  Up to 9 paid holidays for regular, full time and part time employees.

Retirement Plan
Eligible after one year of employment. Employees can contribute up to 15% of salary. Plan includes various, self-directed investment options.  Blair matches 1:3 of the first 6% of salary contributed.  Eligible to participate after one year of employment.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

CNC OPERATOR
REPORTS TO:  Area Supervisor
LOCATION:  5107 Kissell Avenue, Altoona PA  16601

GENERAL:
  • Observe all safety rules and policies at all times with materials and tools.
  • Receive and follow instructions from team leaders and supervisors.
  • Maintain quality standards as well as time standards.                                                  
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Notify Supervisor of any discrepancies on any internal company documents.                           
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:      
                                                                                             
          
Training
  • Must be able to accurately read, understand, and demonstrate how to use a tape measure on materials used daily.
  • Properly use digital calipers and depth gauges to check tooling and depths of cuts in material.
  • Operate basic hand and power tools.
  • Read, understand, and follow print and book job information.
  • Know standard measurements and decimals equivalents.
  • Must be able to do start up and shut down procedures on CNCs.
  • Must be able to retrieve programs, set start points of cuts, and out put Enroute files.
  • Must be able to properly adjust and use coolant mister for cutting aluminum sheets.
  • Must properly label all cut-out letters, backs, faces, etc.
  • Must show ability to discern and label polycarbonates for UV coated side to avoid future yellowing of faces.
Certified
  • Able to identify most types of commonly used materials such as Aluminum, Acrylic, polycarbonate, Sintra, etc.
  • Perform tooling changes.
  • Must show total proficiency on start up and shut down procedures for all 4 models of CNCs in cut room.
  • Must demonstrate what tool “start points” can damage or cause irregular cuts in letter programs.
  • Must show total understanding of when and when NOT to use coolant mister.
  • Set up and operate decoiler.
  • Able to understand basic speed and feed rates of tooling and their effect on raw materials used.
  • Ensure product is transferred to next department clean and complete.
Senior
  • Must demonstrate a complete knowledge of all materials used as well as characteristics of each material.
  • Show complete proficiency with tool changes on multiple tool types such as ball end, O-flute, down shear, etc.
  • Able to explain what parts need cut on which machine, relevant to size, shape, and availability.
  • Name and create tooling in Enroute program.
  • Adjust machines as appropriate - speed, feed rate, edge guides, vinyl cutters, etc.
  • Demonstrate decoiler set up and use with Certified operators.
  • Assist and train newer or less experienced employees.
  • Guide less experienced employees on safety and quality principles.
  • Senior and Advanced employees are responsible for conveying any above mentioned discrepancies, as well as ECR/ ECN forms.       
Advanced
  • Demonstrate strong training abilities with multiple machines and operators.
  • Monitor tooling inventory and Coolant bottles to insure having enough for weekly production needs.
  • Must occasionally run two CNCs at once if operator shortages occur (if production requires).
  • Train Senior level operators on tooling creation in Enroute program.
  • Able to independently complete a job from start to finish with no supervision.
  • Able to interact constructively with project managers and engineering personnel when necessary.
  • Assume departmental responsibilities and/or leadership role in absence of supervisor.                                                                                                                               
WORK ENVIRONMENT DESCRIPTION:                                                                                                 
  • Manufacturing environment - appropriate safety equipment and precautions required such as safety glasses, face shields, gloves, ear plugs, etc.                 
  • Proper clothing required.
  • Lifting product up to 50 pounds; Fast-paced work as needed.  Tobacco free facility.                                                                                                           
ADDITIONAL NOTES:                                                                                                                    
Mandatory overtime occasionally as production requires.
