Located in Altoona, PA, Blair Companies is a recognized leader in the design, production and installation of signage, millwork, architectural facades, electronic displays and lighting systems for a customer base of prominent national accounts.
 
Job Summary
The Executive Director of Manufacturing coordinates all Manufacturing, Production Control, Packing, Shipping, Quality, Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering and Maintenance for the Sign Business Unit.  The position will have seven direct reports.  This position reports to the Executive Vice President of Operations.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure operational excellence in all facets of manufacturing, quality, safety and on-time-delivery
  • Drive process discipline and continuous improvement across the manufacturing organization
  • Direct short and long term budget development
  • Utilize, as appropriate, 5s and lean manufacturing principles and other applicable initiatives with the goal of driving to an industry leading manufacturing operation
  • Identify and implement methods to improve core manufacturing functions including scheduling, product flow, material management, employee relations, equipment utilization and quality processes / procedures
 
Required Skills, Experience and Education
  • Operational and financial acumen to manage a high mix, low volume, quick turn manufacturing operation
  • Expertise in Lean Manufacturing, Process Control and Quality Systems
  • Highly developed understanding of metal working equipment and processes to include metal forming, plastic forming and paint systems
  • Demonstrated leadership of MRP scheduling improvement, cross function team leadership, and process mapping
  • Bachelors degree, preferably in industrial, manufacturing or mechanical engineering
  • Ten years plus of experience at a plant manager, director of manufacturing or VP of manufacturing level
  • Woodworking and lighting experience a plus

Drugs and Alcohol

Health Insurance
Eligible to join the first day of the month after 90 days of employment.  Blair shares cost of premium for family or individual coverage.

Life Insurance
Eligible to join the first day of the month after 90 days of employment.  Company funded life insurance, with the option to sign up for additional insurance paid for by the employee.  Includes spouse and children also.

Flexible Spending Account
Eligible to join the first day of the month after 90 days of employment.  Reimburses employees for qualifying healthcare and/or dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars.

Paid Leave
Blair provides Paid Leave to regular, full-time and part-time employees based upon their length of service with the Company.  Employees may use accrued Paid Leave for vacation, personal business or time off for a personal health condition in accordance with established policy.

Paid Holidays
Eligible after 90 days of employment.  Up to 9 paid holidays for regular, full time and part time employees.

Retirement Plan
Eligible after one year of employment. Employees can contribute up to 15% of salary. Plan includes various, self-directed investment options.  Blair matches 1:3 of the first 6% of salary contributed.  Eligible to participate after one year of employment.
