Training

Health Insurance
Eligible to join the first day of the month after 60 days of employment.  Blair shares cost of premium for family or individual coverage.

Life Insurance
Eligible to join the first day of the month after 90 days of employment.  Company funded life insurance, with the option to sign up for additional insurance paid for by the employee.  Includes spouse and children also.

Flexible Spending Account
Eligible to join the first day of the month after 90 days of employment.  Reimburses employees for qualifying healthcare and/or dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars.

Paid Leave
Blair provides Paid Leave to regular, full-time and part-time employees based upon their length of service with the Company.  Employees may use accrued Paid Leave for vacation, personal business or time off for a personal health condition in accordance with established policy.

Paid Holidays
Eligible after 90 days of employment.  Up to 9 paid holidays for regular, full time and part time employees.

Retirement Plan
Eligible after one year of employment. Employees can contribute up to 15% of salary. Plan includes various, self-directed investment options.  Blair matches 1:3 of the first 6% of salary contributed.  Eligible to participate after one year of employment.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING DESIGNER
REPORTS TO: Director of Lighting Systems
LOCATION:  5107 Kissell Avenue, Altoona PA  16601
SHIFT: First

Responsibilities
  • Select cost effective, energy efficient light fixtures that meet the project requirements
  • Understand the lighting controls technologies and be able to implement in design
  • Handle both interior and exterior projects that include multi-site, National Accounts.
  • Understand common lighting requirements, determining foot candle requirements
  • Support sales solutions with technical support to sales and marketing across cross functional teams in an effort to increase sales
  • Understand lower cost unit pricing between factories
  • Reduce long term operations costs creating sustainability through design
  • Long term cost savings & having the ability to show ROI
  • Assist sales with new opportunities, through design
  • Select best design using fixtures from multiple manufactures
  • Produce low cost value engineered alternate designs
  • Design using life cycle costs
 
Requirements
  • B.S. degree in Architectural Lighting Design or Architectural Engineering Preferred
  • 5 years of related experience in lighting design and lighting sales, with a deep Breath of product knowledge is preferred
  • Experienced in AutoCAD is preferred
  • Photometric design and basic electrical design, able to produce interior and exterior   point by point’s using AGI 32 software
  • Experience with rebate programs and Design Light Consortium is a plus
  • Professional designations, not limited to IALD (International Association of Lighting Designers), and LC (Lighting Certified), and CLC, (Certified Lighting Consultant)
  • Keep up with the fast changing luminaire technologies, National trade shows, product review, sample review, installation
  • Continuing education through publications and training classes
  • Position will require travel
