WOODWORKER JOB DESCRIPTION:

GENERAL:

  • Observe all safety rules and policies at all times with materials and tools.
  • Receive and follow instructions from team leaders and supervisors.
  • Maintain quality standards as well as time standards.                                                    
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Notify Supervisor of any discrepancies on BOMs, BOOs, Prints, and Products.
                                                                       
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:                                                                                                                                                
Training Level (Typically 1-2 years)
  • Must be able to accurately read, understand, and demonstrate how to use a tape measure on materials used daily.
  • Operate basic hand and portable tools.
  • Read, understand, and follow blueprint information.
  • Operate basic floor machines, such as table saw, miter saw, and drill press.
  • Identify various saw blades with table saw, miter saw, radial arm saw, and others.
  • Identify various grades of plastic laminates such as vertical grade, standard grade, etc.
  • Work with basic sheet goods used for cabinet construction.
  • Sand woods and plywoods.
  • Assemble cabinetry using proper techniques with respect to using, applying, routing, and filing laminates.
Certified Level (Typically 2-3 years)
  • Operate most floor machines.
  • Use various types of saw blades to cut product, such as rip, combination, crosscutting.
  • Work with basic fasteners for cabinet and millwork assembly.
  • Use various grades of plastic laminates such as vertical grade, standard grade, etc.
  • Use a variety of lumber grading types.
  • Work with basic hardwoods and softwoods.
  • Use spray grade contact cement, understand proper application and dry times.
  • Work with basic cabinet hardware and 32mm Euro system.
  • Utilize cut lists, blueprints, BOOs and BOMs on a daily basis.
  • Ensure product is transferred to next department clean and complete.
Senior Level (Typically 3-5 years)
  • Operate and train newer employees in all hand tools, floor machines and portable power tools.
  • Use all saw blades with table saw, miter saw, radial arm saw, and others.
  • Identify material defects and quality issues in product.
  • Work with radiuses and miters when laminating cabinets.
  • Cut laminate into multiple pieces to get the best yield out of the larger piece.
  • Handle, cut, assemble, and polish solid surface counter tops.
  • Use basic woodworking joinery techniques, such as dadoes, miters, and rabbets.
  • Sand and stain woods, plywoods, and veneers to create a scratch free and swirl free finish.
  • Train new employees on the basics of casework.
  • Assist and train newer or less experienced employees in all aspects of the job.
  • Guide less experienced employees on safety and quality principles.
  • Senior employees are responsible for conveying any above mentioned discrepancies, as well as ECR/ ECN forms.                                                           
Advanced Level (Typically 5-8 years)
  • Demonstrate proficient ability to measure material in standard and metric.
  • Set up floor machines for less experienced personnel.
  • Monitor proper use of various types of saw blade usage by less experienced woodworkers.
  • Ensures high quality and accuracy for all product.
  • Handle any laminating task.
  • Handle, cut, assemble, and polish any solid surface counter tops task.
  • Use multiple advanced woodworking joinery techniques, such as cope and pattern, lock miter, geometric miters.
  • Delegate work assignments for any size job.
  • Match color consistently for staining millwork, veneers, plywoods, etc.
  • Set up templates for large production runs.
  • Work with basic wiring, glass, and extrusion work for showcases.
  • Handle multiple hardware task in standard and Euro cabinetry applications.
  • Must be able to independently complete a job from start to finish with no supervision.
  • Must be able to interact constructively with project managers and engineering personnel when necessary.
  • Be prepared to assume departmental responsibilities and/or leadership role in absence of supervisor.
                                                                                                                                              
WORK ENVIRONMENT DESCRIPTION:                                                                                                                                               
  • Manufacturing environment - appropriate safety equipment and precautions required such as safety glasses, face shields, gloves, ear plugs, etc.                  
  • Proper clothing required.
  • Lifting product up to 50 pounds; Fast-paced work as needed.  Tobacco free facility.                                                                                                                                                     

ADDITIONAL NOTES:                                                                                                             
Mandatory overtime occasionally as production requires.

Compensation Opportunities
  • Productivity Bonus - Eligible after 90 days of employment.  Blair’s company-wide performance bonus program currently pays up to $500 per quarter based on productivity and seniority measurements.  Additional year-end payments have been made in exceptional years.

Eligible to join the first day of the month after 90 days of employment.  Blair shares cost of premium for family or individual coverage.

Life Insurance
Eligible to join the first day of the month after 90 days of employment.  Company funded life insurance, with the option to sign up for additional insurance paid for by the employee.  Includes spouse and children also.

Flexible Spending Account
Eligible to join the first day of the month after 90 days of employment.  Reimburses employees for qualifying healthcare and/or dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars.

Paid Leave
Blair provides Paid Leave to regular, full-time and part-time employees based upon their length of service with the Company.  Employees may use accrued Paid Leave for vacation, personal business or time off for a personal health condition in accordance with established policy.

Paid Holidays
Eligible after 90 days of employment.  Up to 9 paid holidays for regular, full time and part time employees.

Retirement Plan
Eligible after one year of employment. Employees can contribute up to 15% of salary. Plan includes various, self-directed investment options.  Blair matches 1:3 of the first 6% of salary contributed.  Eligible to participate after one year of employment.
