Eligible to join the first day of the month after 60 days of employment.  Blair shares cost of premium for family or individual coverage.

Eligible to join the first of the month following 60 days of employment.  This plan is provided in conjunction with the Health Care Benefits.

Dental Insurance
Eligible to join the first of the month following 60 days of employment.  This plan is optional to those who choose to enroll in the Health Care Benefits.

Life Insurance
Eligible to join the first day of the month after 90 days of employment.  Company funded life insurance, with the option to sign up for additional insurance paid for by the employee.  Includes spouse and children also.

Flexible Spending Account
Eligible to join the first day of the month after 90 days of employment.  Reimburses employees for qualifying healthcare and/or dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars.

Paid Leave
Blair provides Paid Leave to regular, full-time and part-time employees based upon their length of service with the Company.  Employees may use accrued Paid Leave for vacation, personal business or time off for a personal health condition in accordance with established policy.

Paid Holidays
Eligible after 90 days of employment.  Up to 9 paid holidays for regular, full time and part time employees.

Retirement Plan
Eligible after one year of employment. Employees can contribute up to 15% of salary. Plan includes various, self-directed investment options.  Blair matches 1:3 of the first 6% of salary contributed.  Eligible to participate after one year of employment.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Fleet Vehicle Mechanic
REPORTS TO:  Maintenance Supervisor
LOCATION:  5107 Kissell Avenue, Altoona PA  16601

GENERAL:
  • Observe all safety rules and policies at all times with materials and tools.
  • Receive and follow instructions from team leaders and supervisors.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance functions to all production equipment and facility building structure.                        
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas including garage area and equipment.
  • Follow a PM schedule and routinely service both metal and wood working equipment.
  • Proficient in welding & cutting torch operation.
  • Inspect, adjust, and replace necessary items and related parts involving valves, hoses, belts, alternators trailer repair, tire rotation, annual inspection coordination.
  • Repair vehicle cooling, fuel, electrical, & exhaust systems.  Tune engines using standard testing equipment.
  • Diagnose, repair and maintain hydraulic systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance work on vehicles, including lubrication and oil changes.
  • Fabricate and weld when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate parts inventory.
  • Ability to schedule and prioritize daily tasks.
  • Establish & maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Specialty Vehicles:
  • Bucket trucks and cranes in addition to above vehicle items.
  • Hydraulic- fluid checks, leak repairs, maintain and grease cables, lubrication.
  • Coordinate annual inspections (for cranes and bucket trucks)
  • Electrical troubleshooting.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:                   
                                                                                 
 
Training
  • Assist higher level technicians with repairs, installations, and preventative maintenance.
  • Able to operate basic hand and power tools.
  • Must be able to accurately read, understand, and demonstrate how to use a tape measure on materials used daily.
  • If necessary, licensed to drive a motor vehicle.
Certified
  • Follow direction of Supervisor or higher level techs.
  • Repair/replace/diagnose problems with electro-mechanical and pneumatic.
  • Repair of pneumatic hoses and connection devices.
  • Use industrial power tools. (Drill press, mills, lathe, pipe threader, welder).
  • Properly operate and obtain license to operate all scissor-lifts and fork trucks.
  • Proficient in at least one of the following trades: electrical, electro-mechanical, hydraulics, plumbing, pneumatics systems.
Senior
  • Diagnose equipment failures and provide supervisor with findings and required parts.
  • Assist and train newer or less experienced employees.
  • Guide less experienced employees on safety and quality principles.
  • Must adhere to a stringent “RED TAG” policy for maintenance and safety reasons.
  • Must be able to independently complete a job from start to finish with no supervision.
  • Must be able to interact constructively with production and engineering personnel when necessary.
  • Expert in at least one of the following trades: electrical, electro-mechanical, plumbing, hydraulics, pneumatics systems.
Advanced
  • Responsible for all maintenance upkeep regarding belts, bearings, lubrication schedules, and safety devices such as panic stops, safety rails, and machine guards on all Blair equipment.
  • Must adhere to a stringent “RED TAG” policy for maintenance and safety reasons.
  • Must be able to independently complete a job from start to finish with no supervision.
  • Must be able to interact constructively with production and engineering personnel when necessary.
  • Be prepared to assume departmental responsibilities and/or leadership role in absence of supervisor.
  • Expert in at least one of the following trades:  electrical, electro-mechanical, plumbing, pneumatics, hydraulics and proficient in at least two of the remaining.
                                                                                                                                               
WORK ENVIRONMENT DESCRIPTION:                                                                                                 
  • Manufacturing environment - appropriate safety equipment and precautions required such as safety glasses, face shields, gloves, ear plugs, etc.                 
  • Proper clothing required.
  • Lifting product up to 50 pounds.  Fast-paced work as needed.  Tobacco free facility.
  • Must be able to flex shift schedule to accommodate production needs.                                   
                                                                                    
ADDITIONAL NOTES:                                                                                                                    
Mandatory overtime occasionally as production requires.
