Since its inception as Central Blair Electric in 1959, Blair Companies has expanded into 21 diverse businesses, including the Image Group with signs, fixtures, lighting and architectural imaging; the Development Group with electrical, construction, coal resources and real estate; and the Venture Group, with stakes in a wide variety of local businesses. Training

Health Insurance
Eligible to join the first day of the month after 60 days of employment.  Blair shares cost of premium for family or individual coverage.

Vision Insurance
Eligible to join the first day of the month after 60 days of employment.  Vision coverage is included in conjunction with the Health Insurance.

Life Insurance
Eligible to join the first day of the month after 90 days of employment.  Company funded life insurance, with the option to sign up for additional insurance paid for by the employee.  Includes spouse and children also.

Flexible Spending Account
Eligible to join the first day of the month after 60 days of employment.  Reimburses employees for qualifying healthcare and/or dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars.

Paid Leave
Blair provides Paid Leave to regular, full-time and part-time employees based upon their length of service with the Company.  Employees may use accrued Paid Leave for vacation, personal business or time off for a personal health condition in accordance with established policy.

Paid Holidays
Eligible after 90 days of employment.  Up to 9 paid holidays for regular, full time and part time employees.

Retirement Plan
Eligible after one year of employment. Employees can contribute up to 15% of salary. Plan includes various, self-directed investment options.  Blair matches 1:3 of the first 6% of salary contributed.  Eligible to participate after one year of employment.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

QUALITY/PROCESS IMPROVEMENT MANAGER
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Operations
LOCATION:  5107 Kissell Avenue, Altoona PA  16601
SHIFT: First

Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership and facilitation to departments, individual and teams in regards to coordinating quality standards and activities.
  • Lead the company wide Quality Continual Improvement Program
  • Ensure Quality Systems meet requirements outlined in the Quality Manual
  • Establish QA Lab
  • Drive 5s and Visual Factory for process improvement, rework and warranty reduction
  • Establish and ensure compliance to Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Lead Quality Investigations and assist in trouble shooting
  • Establish an incoming materials verification (supplier rating) program.  Drives supplier improvement
  • Works cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Purchasing, R&D and Project Management
  • Ensure compliance to all applicable quality Customer-specific systems and requirements.
  • Ensure compliance of all quality controlled documentation, document change activities and record retention requirements.
  • Provide direction, mentorship, training guidance and day-to-day management of the quality team
  • Report on all required daily, weekly and monthly quality metrics.
  • Create and implement work procedures / instructions to ensure acceptable work
Requirements
  • Proven manufacturing leadership, 10+ years experience in a manufacturing management role required
  • BS degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Management or equivalent required
  • Successful experience leading 5s, Visual Factory, TQM required
  • Demonstrated success of being a strong quality advocate required
  • Excellent influence, persuasion, verbal and written communication skills required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, including ability to work in a self-directed environment
  • Quality Engineering background a must
  • Proficient in use of a computer and common office software is required (i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Factory Lean implementation a plus
  • Factory Safety Leadership a plus
  • Leadership of an ISO implementation a plus
  • Society for Quality certification, such as current CQE status, is highly desirable
