POSITION: WELDER / FABRICATOR

 

DEPARTMENT: Welding / Fabricating
LOCATION: 5107 Kissell Avenue, Altoona PA 16601
REPORTS TO: Area Supervisor

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Training Level

  • Must be able to accurately read, understand, and demonstrate how to use a tape measure on materials used daily.
  • Operate basic hand and power tools such as Hilti gun, shears, drills, and welding equipment.
  • Mig welding ability for light and heavy mild steel, non-structural components.
  • Use of chop saw and band saw to cut materials.
  • Read, understand, and follow print and book job information.
  • Assist more experienced Welders and Fabricators with basic lay-outs.
  • Responsible for having a “Blair certified welder” inspect integrity of all welds for quality and safety standards.

 

Certified Level

  • Fabrication of various frames and structures.
  • Ability to use overhead crane.
  • Ability to use forklift.
  • Maintain quality standards as well as time standards.
  • Ensure product is transferred to next department clean and complete.
  • Responsible for having a “Blair certified welder” inspect integrity of all welds for quality and safety standards.

 

Senior Level

  • Ability to work with engineering and drafting departments with new designs and manufacturing.
  • Ability to perform MIG welding, cutting torches, torch table plate cutting, and iron work.
  • Achieve Blair Welding Certification test to weld, cut and fabricate any base plates to structure support poles.
  • Assist and train newer or less experienced employees.
  • Guide less experienced employees on safety and quality principles.
  • Responsible for inspecting welds of trainees and certified level welders in order to maintain Blair Companies high standard of quality and safety.
  • Senior and Advanced employees are responsible for conveying any above mentioned discrepancies, as well as ECR/ ECN forms.

 

Advanced Level

  • Ability to construct all cabinets; welding, cutting and fitting of all pieces; welding of all mounting brackets and lifting brackets, and burning electrical holes; welding and cutting of all shipping stands and installing them.
  • Operation of yard crane.
  • Complete any task required in structural welding area.
  • Ability to work with other departments with scheduling.
  • Must be able to independently complete a job from start to finish with no supervision.
  • Must be able to interact constructively with project managers and engineering personnel when necessary.
  • Be prepared to assume departmental responsibilities and/or leadership role in absence of supervisor.
  • Responsible for inspecting welds of trainees and certified level welders in order to maintain Blair Companies high standard of quality and safety.


WORK ENVIRONMENT DESCRIPTION:

  • Manufacturing environment - appropriate safety equipment and precautions required such as safety glasses, face shields, gloves, ear plugs, hard hat, welding jacket, welding gloves, etc.
  • Must be qualified to drive company vehicles.
  • Lifting product up to 50 pounds; Fast-paced work as needed. Tobacco free facility.

 

GENERAL:

  • Observe all safety rules and policies at all times with materials and tools.
  • Receive and follow instructions from team leaders and supervisors.
  • Maintain quality standards as well as time standards.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Perform and fill out daily fork-lift inspection sheets
  • Notify Supervisor of any discrepancies on BOMs, BOOs, Prints, and Products.
  • Mandatory overtime occasionally as production requires.
